One of the most popular and successful songs is THE GREATEST included on the album of the same name, a decada after she released her debut album (2006). She has published  nine albums to date.

LYRICS

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or waterfall could STALL me
And then came the rush of the flood
The stars at night turned DEEP to dust

Melt me down
into big black armour
Leave no trace
Of grace
Just in your honor
Lower me down
TO CULPRIT SOUTH
Make 'EM WASH A SPACE IN TOWN
FOR THE LEAD
AND THE DREGS OF MY BED
I'VE BEEN SLEEPING
Lower me down
PIN ME IN
Secure the grounds
For the later parade

Once I wanted to be the greatest
TWO FISTS OF SOLID ROCK
WITH BRAINS THAT COULD EXPLAIN
Any feeling
Lower me down
PIN ME IN
Secure the grounds
FOR THE LEAD
AND THE DREGS OF MY BED
I'VE BEEN SLEEPING
For the later parade

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or water fall could STALL me
And then came the rush of the flood
The stars at night turned DEEP to dust

AMOS LEE: COLORS

AMOS LEE is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His musical style encompasses folk, soul, and jazz. He recorded his first album that owns this song entitled COLORS in 2005. We can recognize Norah Jones' piano on this track. He has recorded three more albums to date. Amos Lee belongs to a generation of new artists that fuse various styles such as Norah Jones, Liz Wright or Madeleine Peyroux.

LYRICS

Yesterday i got lost in the circus,
feeling like such a mess.
And now I'm down,
I'm just hanging on the corner.
I can't help but reminisce.

Cuz when you're gone,
all the colours fade.
When you're gone,
no new years day parade.
You're gone,
colours seem to fade.

Your mama called, she said,
that you're downstairs crying.
Feeling like such a mess.
Ya, i hear ya,
in the back ground balling.
What happened to your sweet summer time dress.

I know we all,
we all got our faults.
We get locked in our vaults,
and we stay..

When you're gone,
all the colours fade.
When you're gone,
no new years day parade.
You're gone,
colours seem to fade,
colours seem to fade.

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT: THE ONE YOU LOVE

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is one of the most important and talented singer-songwriter of the last decade. Rufus comes from a musical family, his father is Loudon Wainwright III, Kate McGerrigale his mother and his sister Martha Wainwright. Although probably the genius of the family is him. We have selected a track from Want Two (2004) entitled THE ONE YOU LOVE, a pop athem of our time.

LYRICS

The mind has so many pictures
Why can't I sleep with my eyes open
The mind has so many memories
Can you remember what it looks like when I cry

I'm Trying, trying to tell you
All that I can in a sweet and velvet tongue
But no words ever could sell you
Sell you on me after all that I have done

I'm only the one you love
Am I only the one you love?
The Lady Gloom and her hornets circling round
Is now before us, the screaming's done without moving
One little move and for sure you will be stung

I'm singing "Oh, Jerusalem oh, Jerusalem
See what he's picked up in the park"
Let's f**k this awful art party
Want you to make love to me and only to me in the dark

I'm only the one you love
Am I only the one you love?

We've traded in our snap shots
We're going through the motions
Into the view, I'm leaving you
Down Conduit Avenue into the early morning
Into the early morning
The one I love
Are you only the one I love?

JAVIER ÁLVAREZ: DE AQUÍ A LA ETERNIDAD.

JAVIER ÁLVAREZ is a spanish singer-songwriter who start his career in 1994. His musical influences come more pop than the traditional songwriting. Among his influences are ABBA, Michael Jackson, James Taylor, The Eagles, Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega and Emmylou Harris. Álvarez belongs to the same generation of Spanish songwriters Like Pedro Guerra, Tonxu, or Ismael Serrano. We have chosen DE AQUÍ A LA ETERNIDAD the first single from his epounymous album debut. He had the collaboration of ANA BELÉN and VICTOR MANUEL on this track.

LYRICS

volando lejos

SAU was one of the pioneers of Catalan rock group, and one of the most successful of the movement. Its main components were Carles Sabater, singer, and Pep Sala, who played guitar and sometimes keyboards. The group was formed in 1987 and lasted until 1999 when the death of Carles Sabater. We have chosen one of their most emblematic song: BOIG PER TU (Quina Nit, 1990). Some people know this song sung by LUZ CASAL and adapted to Castilian with the title ES POR TI. Then hear the two versions.

LYRICS

A la terra humida escric
nena estic boig per tu,
em passo els dies
esperant la nit.

Com et puc estimar
si de mi estàs tan lluny;
servil i acabat

jo no puc arribar on ets tu,
però dins la meva copa veig
reflexada la teva llum, me la beuré;
servil i acabat, boig per tu.

Quan no hi siguis al matí,
les llàgrimes es perdran
entre la pluja
que caurà avui.

Em quedaré atrapat
ebri d'aquesta llum
servil i acabat

jo no puc arribar on ets tu,
però dins la meva copa veig
reflexada la teva llum, me la beuré;
servil i acabat boig per tu.

REGINA SPEKTOR: APRÈS MOI.

REGINA SPEKTOR is a Rusian-born American singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered in New York City's East Village. Regina starts her career in 2000, and she has released six álbums to date. Today, we chose an awesome song from his discography: APRÈS MOI  (Begin to hope, 2006). Stands out above all the incessant piano and the soundness of Regina, singing her lyrics in english, french and russian. PETER GABRIEL can't get out this song of his head and it was covered in his last album (Scratch My Back, 2010).

LYRICS

I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I must go on standing
I'm not my own, it's not my choice

Be afraid of the lame, they'll inherit your legs
Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your souls
Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood
Après moi, le deluge, after me comes the flood

I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I must go on standing
I'm not my own, it's not my choice

Be afraid of the lame, they'll inherit your legs
Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your souls
Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood
Après moi le deluge, after me comes the flood

Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat
Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd
Poka grohochushaya slyakot
Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit

Be afraid of the lame, they'll inherit your legs
Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your souls
Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood
Après moi le deluge, after me comes the flood

I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I must go on standing
I'm not my own, It's not my choice

I must go on stan-stan-ding-ding
You can't, can't break that, that
Which isn't, isn't yours, yours
I'm not, not my own, own
It's not, not my choice, choice

LYRICS

Fui bailar no meu batel
Além no mar cruel
E o mar bramindo
Diz que eu fui roubar
A luz sem par
Do teu olhar tão lindo
Vem saber se o mar terá razão
Vem cá ver bailar meu coração
Se eu bailar no meu batel
Não vou ao mar cruel
E nem lhe digo aonde eu fui cantar
Sorrir, bailar, viver, sonhar...contigo

IRON & WINE: NAKED AS WE CAME

Behind the name IRON AND WINE  hides Sam Beam. A musician, singer and songwriter from Florida, but rooted in South Carolina. His sound, which dominates the acoustic guitar and banjo, has been compared to Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake and Neil Young. The labels have made music from "Iron & Wine" ranging from alternative country, progressive folk and Indie folk. We can say  that Iron & Wine's music is beauty, pure and simple. Although Beam songbook is extensive and interesting, we have chosen this beautiful video of one of his most emblematic songs: NAKED AS WE CAME from his second album "Our Endless Numbered Days" (2004).

LYRICS

She says "wake up, it's no use pretending"
I'll keep stealing, breathing her.
Birds are leaving over autumn's ending
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes 'round the yard

She says "If I leave before you, darling
Don't you waste me in the ground"
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes round the yard

BARBARA: DIS, QUAND REIVENDRAS-TU?

Monique Andrée Serf (June 9, 1930 – November 24, 1997), known as BARBARA, was a popular french singer and songwriter who starts her career at the sixties. DIS, QUAND REIVENDRAS-TU? (Music & Lyric by Barbara in 1962) is one of those songs that she will be remembered. Barbara is claimed by very young artists who recognize her as an influence. Both Martha Wainwright and Regina Spektor have succumbed to her talent. Even Mika has covered "La solitude" in his performances in Paris. Today, we wanted to remember her.

LYRICS

REFRAIN

J'ai beau t'aimer encore, j'ai beau t'aimer toujours
J'irai me réchauffer à un autre soleil

Antonio Vega's name appears again on this blog. His genius makes him one of the most important musicians of the Spanish pop. Vega is the author of CHICA DE AYER one of the most important songs in the history of Spanish pop. As part of the "Movida Madrileña". He composed this song he recorded with NACHA POP in his debut self-titled album, in 1980 when he was doing military service in Valencia. The song reflects the mental and social changes of the moment, its success is due in part to the historical context in which it was created, and eventually, CHICA DE AYER is the romantic memory of the time lived.

LYRICS

chica, vete a tu casa, no podemos jugar.

Baiser sal, sali

Pas de limite
Au got de l'after beat
Reste allong
Je vais te rallumer
Ae, Etienne

Je me sens tourdie
Toute allourdie
Mais un trs grand apptit

Oh, tiens le bien
Dlasse, dlaisse
Enlacs, lancs
Si je te mords
Et encore et encore
Pendant le dos
Je souffle le mot
Oh, Etienne

CLARA MONTES: A TRABAJOS FORZADOS ME CONDENAN

CLARA MONTES is a Spanish singer whose reputation has grown over time since 1998, her first recording year. She borrowed Antonio Gala's poems for this record and she had the satisfaction of the author who would say that her voice had much to do with her name by being clear and having the nuances of the thickness of a mountain. Antonio Gala is is one of the best living poets Spanish.
I've Chosen a song called A TRABAJOS FORZADOS ME CONDENAN. The musical adaptation of the poetry of Gala was the responsibility of Antonio Vega, another great genious who died in 2009. It is a love song broken and torn.
Clara Montes continues composing her own music, recording albums and giving concerts. Her music is not commercial but can live perfectly in her art.

LYRICS

A trabajos forzados me condena

No concibe mi alma mayor pena
