CHAVELA VARGAS: LUZ DE LUNA.

LUZ DE LUNA is a song composed by Álvaro Carrillo and it has been sung by the most important latin artists. Later, you can listen a cover by ROCÍO DÚRCAL. But today we want to remember our favorite version of this song performed by CHAVELA VARGAS, a living legend of our era. Her first album was released in 1961 and has since recorded over eighty albums. She retired in the late seventies and returned in 1991. At 91, still active. This version was realised for the soundtrack of Kika (Pedro Almodóvar, 1993).

LYRICS

Yo quiero luz de luna
para mi noche triste
para soñar divina
la ilusión que me trajiste
para sentirte mía, mía tú
como ninguna
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido luz de luna
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido luz de luna

si ya no vuelves nunca
provincianita mía
a mi senda querida
que está triste y está fría
en vez de en mi almohada
lloraré sobre mi tumba
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido luz de luna
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido luz de luna

yo siento tus amarras
como garfios, como garras
que me ahogan en la playa
de la farra y el dolor
y siento tus cadenas a rastras
en mi noche callada
que sea plenilunada
y azul como ninguna
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido luz de luna
pues desde que te fuiste
no he tenido
luz de luna.

Cover of LUZ DE LUNA performed by ROCÍO DÚRCAL.

BRENDAN BENSON: COLD HANDS (WARM HEART).

BRENDAN BENSON is an American musician and songwriter. He sings and plays guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and drums. He has released four solo albums and is a member of the band The Raconteurs with his friend Jack White of White Stripes that have published another two albums.
His second album "Lapalco" (2002) is a pop master piece. We have Chosen COLD HANDS (WARM HEART) a very fresh pop song about a break up, of his third album "The alternative to love" (2005).

LYRICS

Cold hands, warm heart
We just need some time apart
And everything will be okay
Oh no, not again
Why does it always happen?
It seems like every other day

You're too quiet, I'm too loud
Now we've rid a storm cloud
I'll see you on the other side
Old habits, young ways
Maybe we're just a phase
But we can say we really try

And it really shouldn't be this hard
You know it really shouldn't be
And if we can only see it this far
Well then I hate to say it, but it's obvious
I'm telling you, girl, there's no future for us

All talk, no action
So what's the big attraction?
And don't tell me it's "just because"
All work, no play
Don't wanna go on this way
I wanna go back to the way it was

And it really shouldn't be this hard
You know it really shouldn't be
And if we can only take it this far
Well then we've got to end it before it's too late
The love that is left turns quickly to hate

Cold hands, warm heart
We just need some time apart
And everything will be okay

MAMA CASS ELLIOT: MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC.

Ellen Naomi Cohen and also known as MAMA CASS or CASS ELLIOT, was an American singer and member of The Mamas & the Papas. After the group broke up, she released five solo albums. Cass died at the age 34 of a heart attack. But her legacy has influenced contemporary pop music. We chose MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC one of her hits from 1969. Today is a recurring song for films such as "Beautiful Things" (Hettie McDonald, 1996) and series like "Lost".

LYRICS

Nobody can tell ya
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell ya
Cause it hangs them up to see someone like you

But you've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

You're gonna be nowhere
The loneliest kind of lonely
It may be rough going
Just to do your thing's the hardest thing to do

But you've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

So if you cannot take my hand
And if you must be going
I will understand

You've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along
You've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music...

LYRICS

I see the lights are turning
And i look outside the stars are burning
Through this changing time
It could have been anything we want
Its fine salvation was just a passing thought.

Dont wait act now
This amazing offer wont last long
Its only a chance to pave the path were on
I know there are more exciting things to talk about
And in time well sort it out

And though they say its possible to me
I dont see how its probable
I see the course were on
Spinning farther from what i know
Ill hold on
Tell me that you wont let go
Tell me that you wont let go

And truth is such a funny thing
With all these people
Keep on telling me
They know whats best
And what to be frightened of
And all the rest are wrong
They know nothing about us

And though they say its possible to me
I dont see how its probable
I see the course were on
Spinning farther from what i know
Ill hold on
Tell me that you wont let go
Tell me that you wont let go

Im not alright

This could be something beautiful
Combine our love into something wonderful
But times are tough i know
And the pull of what we cant give up takes hold

Yo tengo el calor que tú necesitas,
tengo la flor para calmar tu dolor,
tú sabes que yo cuento los días,
viendo caer noches y lluvia sin ti.

Solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
déjame pasar solo una vez más no puedo esperar.

Yo tengo el calor que tú necesitas,
guardo la flor para calmar tu dolor.

Solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
déjame pasar solo una vez más no puedo esperar, quédate.

Sin ninguna pretensión pero con todas,
sin ninguna condición salvo que ahora,
me digas que esta noche es solo para mí,
que ya está amaneciendo quédate conmigo,
quédate conmigo quédate a vivir.

Solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo.

Solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo,
solo quiero despertarme contigo.

ESKOBAR: MOVE ON

ESKOBAR is the name of a Swedish indie pop band that was founded in 1996 some 30 kilometres north of Stockholm, in the small town of Åkersberga. The band features Daniel Bellqvist as its lead singer, Frederik Zäll on guitars, and Robert Birming on drums. The fame came with "Someone new" a duet with Heather Nova released in 2002, was an international hit and has since taken on a life of its own. Although both artists are still primarily known in Europe, the popularity of "Someone New" saw Eskobar and Heather Nova's fan base reach America through MTV. But today we are going to listen MOVE ON that belongs to the album "There's only know" (2001). Eskobar has published five records to date.

LYRICS

You and J's been sitting by the roadside
For far too long, in this little town
Seems your plan of leaving left you both behind
Your wings are strong, you're still on the ground

Seconds, hours, minutes they all pass you by
Above your heads, still an empty sky
Shining shies or working mines, is not your favorite waste oftime
And never what you had in mind
Gonna have to move on
Or else your life will be gone
Don't set your level too high
Just lower the line of the sky

You missed the bus that never had a stop in your town
Seems it let you down, never came around
No one you knew ever left this place alive
Became husbands and wives, nomatter how they strived

Seconds, hours, minutes they all pass you by
Above your heads, still an empty sky
Shining shies or working mines, is not your favorite waste oftime
And never what you had in mind
Gonna have to move on
Or else your life will be gone
Don't set your level too high
Just lower the line of the sky

DAMIEN RICE & LISA HANNIGAN: UNPLAYED PIANO.

DAMIEN RICE is one of our favourites singer-songwriters. He is extremely sensitive and we think his two albums "O" and "9 Crimes" are both master pieces. LISA HANNIGAN has a great talent and She has shown it in her solo career without the shadow of Rice. UNPLAYED PIANO (2005) was released as a single by Hannigan and Rice to support the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday campaign which was running at the time. Rice is known for its commitment to some charities.

LYRICS

Come and see me
Sing me to sleep
Come and free me
Or hold me if i need to weep
Or maybe it's not the season
Or maybe it's not the year
Or maybe there's no good reason
Why i'm locked up inside
Just cause they wanna hide me
The moon goes bright
The darker they make my night

Unplayed pianos
Are often by a window
In a room where nobody loved goes
She sits alone with her silent song
Somebody bring her home

Unplayed piano (unplayed piano)
Still holds a tune (still holds a tune)
Lock on the lid (years, years pass by)
In a stale, stale room (in the changing of the moon)
Maybe it's not that easy (too many windows)
Or maybe it's not that hard (in a stale, stale room)
Maybe they could release me (stale, stale room)
Let the people decide
I've got nothing to hide
I've done nothing wrong
So why've i been here so long?

Unplayed pianos
Are often by a window
In a room where nobody loved goes
She sits alone with her silent song
Somebody bring her home

Unplayed pianos
Are often by a window
In a room where nobody loved goes
She sits alone with her silent song
Somebody bring her home

Unplayed piano (unplayed piano)
Still holds a tune
Years pass by
In the changing of the moon

FIONA APPLE: PAPER BAG.

FIONA APPLE is an american singer-songwriter who started her career in the middle of the nineties. She has published three albums to date and got a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 40th Grammy Awards with her song "Criminal" from Tidal (1996). Today we have chosen PAPER BAG from her second album "When the Pawn..." (2000). A great song with a very interesting Clip directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, 1999).

LYRICS

I was staring at the sky
Just looking for a star
To pray on, or wish on
Or something like that

I was having a sweet fix
Of a daydream of a boy
Whose reality I knew
Was a hopeless to be had

But then the dove of hope began its downward slope
And I believed for a moment that my chances were
Approaching to be grabbed
But as it came down near, so did a weary tear
I thought it was a bird, but it was just a paper bag

Hunger hurts, and I want him so bad, oh it kills
'Cause I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold 'cause these hands are too shaky to hold
Hunger hurts, but starving works, when it costs too much to love

And I went crazy again today, looking for a strand to climb
Looking for a little hope
Baby said he couldn't stay, wouldn't put his lips to mine,
And a fail to kiss is a fail to cope

And I said, "Honey, I don't feel so good, don't feel justified
Come on put a little love here in my void"
He said, "It's all in your head"
And I said, "So's everything'" but he didn't get it
I thought he was a man but he was just a little boy

Hunger hurts, and I want him so bad, oh it kills
'Cause I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold 'cause these hands are too shaky to hold
Hunger hurts, but starving works, when it costs too much to love

Hunger hurts, but I want him so bad, oh it kills
'Cause I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold because these hands are just too shaky to hold
Hunger hurts, but starving works, when it costs too much to love

Oh hunger hurts, but I want him so bad, oh it kills
Because I know that I'm a mess that he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold because these hands are just too shaky to hold
Hunger hurts, but starving it works, when it costs too much to love

AMARAL: VOY A ACABAR CONTIGO.

AMARAL is a duet formed by Eva Amaral (Singer and songwriter) and Juan Aguirre (Guitarrist and songwriter) They have lived a decade of success since their debut in 1998. We have chosen VOY A ACABAR CONTIGO, the fith single of their eponymous debut record because it is our favourite song in all their discography. This song has a mexican touch that makes it irresistible.

LYRICS

Aún no apagues la luz,
Quiero verla en tus ojos brillar.
Arde la calle de madrugada,
Me ha abrasado el corazón.
Tenías razón, voy a acabar contigo.

Mañana haré que te despiertes,
Me gusta hacerte rabiar.
Ya sabes por dónde ando,
Merodeando a tu alrededor.

No me digas que me evapore,
Que sufre mi corazón,
Cargado de ideas brillantes,
En los bolsillos.

Tenías razón, estoy fumando demasiado,
Y te sabe a demonios que diga que no.

Aún no apagues la luz,
Quiero verla en tus ojos brillar.
Arde la calle de madrugada,
Me ha abrasado el corazón.
Tenías razón, voy a acabar contigo.

Con un poquito de suerte,
Y algún capote, yo me abro camino,

Tenías razón, voy a acabar contigo.

NERINA PALLOT: WHEN DID I BECOME SUCH A BITCH?

NERINA PALLOT is a british singer-songwriter and pianist. She starts her career in 2001. She recieved a lot of excelent reviews with her second album "Fires". This funny song entitled WHEN DID I BECOME SUCH A BITCH? belongs to her third album "The Graduate" (2010). You can listen this song in two versions: A homemade jam session with violinist Lucas Lima on the clip, or the version of the recording.

LYRICS

In Sears and Robucks in 1957,
In my last life all good girls would go to Heaven
But I've a strangeness, a queer propensity for twisting the knife too easily.

When I think I'm getting better I'm just getting worse
When I think I've got it made I am impossibly cursed.

When did I become such a bitch?
And how did I let this happen? I don't know
When did I become such a bitch?
I used to be so nice.

It's like a sickness, I'm powerless to stop it
My boring life, my little heart made misanthropic
Don't give me reasons, just give me therapy
But really just give me what I want.

When I think I'm getting better I'm evil again
When I think I've got it fixed I am ...

When did I become such a bitch?
And how did I let this happen? I don't know
When did I become such a bitch?
I used to be so nice
Well, I used to be alright.

But I hate everyone and everything all of the time
And being so cruel - 'cause all the pleasure that I get
My wicked tongue helps me forget
Myself and all my foolish ways
'Cause being good is just so fucking boring
La, la, la, it's boring.

When I think I'm getting better I'm just getting worse
When I think I've got it made I am impossibly cursed.
When I think that I'm better I'm worse, yes, I am.
When I think that I'm better I find that I'm cursed.

When did I become such a bitch?
And how did I let this happen? I don't know
When did I become such a bitch?
I used to be so nice once upon a time.

Oh, when did I become such a bitch?
And how did I let this happen? I don't know
When did I become such a bitch?
I used to be so nice
Well, I used to be alright.

ANNA NALICK: BREATHE (2 AM)

ANNA NALICK is an American singer-songwriter. Her debut album, Wreck of the Day (2005), featuring her first radio hit, BREATHE (2AM) which peaked at #45 U.S. and went 3x Platinum on the Billboard Hot 100, and went huge on Adult Contemporary and Adult Top 40. We have chosen this song because it is one of our favorites. We like Nalick's voice and the depth of her lyrics. Her career has been the victim of record companies. Soon return to recording under an independent label.

You can listen it in Grooveshark too...

Breathe (2AM) by Anna Nalick on Grooveshark

LYRICS

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe

May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe.

FANGORIA: RETORCIENDO PALABRAS.

FANGORIA is a musical group made up of Alaska and Nacho Canut. Both had agreed earlier in the groups "Kaka de Luxe", "Alaska y Dinarama" and "Alaska y los Pegamoides". His style of music is often described as electropop, or defined by current generations as "vanguard" pioneers of this style of music in early 80. We have chosen RETORCIENDO PALABRAS (Arquitectura Efímera, 2004) on of their last favourites songs. Alaska contributed with her music to the "Movida Madrileña" a cultural spanish movement of the eighties. Her name is attached to this movement. Even participated as an actress in the first film by Pedro Almodóvar: "Pepi, Lucy, Bon y otras chicas del montón" en 1980.

LYRICS

DAR WILLIAMS: FAREWELL TO THE OLD ME.

DAR WILLIAMS is one of the most interesting names of folk music in last two decades. She started her career at 1993 ahd she has published seven records to date. We have chosen FAREWELL TO THE OLD ME, one of her most beautiful songs that it belongs to the album The Beauty of the Rain (2000).

LYRICS

How can I ask love to hold the mystery
When just look at me
It's all push and pull collateral
I don't want to be the one who gets the next surprise
I'll plan it out this time
Though I used to think that things were meant to be

So farewell to the old me
Farewell to the old me
My life is working better now
It's always changing anyhow

I danced a lot of nights until the grass was wet
It wasn't over yet
'Round 'bout 3 a. m. you made a friend
And I followed a lot of vital crazy thoughts
Because it's where the meaning was
And I tried to find it every other way

So farewell to the old me
Farewell to the old me
My life is getting better now
But always changing anyhow

But I can turn on the charm
Show them nothing more
Than what I've done before
It's nothing much new
But it'll do
'Cause I don't wanna be the one who makes you laugh out loud
I wanna make you proud
And you always said you knew what I could be

So farewell to the old me
Farewell to the old me
Farewell to the old me
My life is working better now
But always changing anyhow
Time
And the old me
Farewell to the old me
Farewell...

MUMFORD & SONS: SIGH NO MORE.

MUMFORD & SONS is one of the bands of the last times. Their album SIGH NO MORE (2009) has been a great success. We have rescued precisely the same title song of this album. Mumford & Sons Recalls other bands like The Waterboys or Fleet Foxes. Their music style is classified as folk. While that may be oversimplifying. Because this is the debut album from a band that is still a long way to go.

LYRICS

Serve God love me and men
This is not the end
Lived unbruised we are friends
And I'm sorry
I'm sorry

Sigh no more, no more
One ? one unsure
My heart was never pure
And you know me
And you know me

And man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing

Love that will not betray you, dismay or enslave you,
It will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be.
There is a design,
An alignment to cry,
At my heart you see,
The beauty of love as it was made to be (x4)
