JOAQUÍN SABINA: Y NOS DIERON LAS DIEZ.

JOAQUÍN SABINA is a very popular Spanish singer characterized by writing excellent lyrics that have marked several generations. Sabina has released fifteen albums to date. We chose Y NOS DIERON LAS DIEZ from his 1992 album "Física y Química" because it is a song that brings back memories of summer and old loves lost. Hope you like it.
As a curiosity, to comment that this song inspired to Enrique Urquijo another beautiful song. He borrowed some lines to create it. I mean OJOS DE GATA by LOS SECRETOS. You can hear it at the end of the post.

LYRICS

Fue en un pueblo con mar
una noche después de un concierto;

tú saliste a cerrar,
yo me dije:
"Cuidado, chaval, te estás enamorando".

Luego todo pasó
de repente, su dedo en mi espalda
dibujo un corazón
y mi mano le correspondió debajo de tu falda.

Caminito al hostal
nos besamos en cada farola,
era un pueblo con mar,
yo quería dormir contigo y tú no querías dormir sola...

No había nadie detrás

ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS: FISTFUL OF LOVE.

I never forget the first time I heard ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS. Something stirred in my heart. The peculiar voice of Antony Hegarty matches him with such artists as Nina Simone and Aaron Neville. His music, in addition to his voice that highlights the accompaniment of piano, it comes to genres as cabaret, jazz and soul more intimate. I have chosen FISTFUL OF LOVE from his masterpiece album "I am a bird now" (2005). Hope you like.

LYRICS

I was lying in my bed last night staring
At a ceiling full of stars
When it suddenly hit me
I just have to let you know how I feel
We live together in a photograph of time
I look into your eyes
And the seas open up to me
I tell you I love you
And I always will
And I know you can't tell me
I know you can't tell me

So I'm left to pick up
The hints, the little symbols of your devotion
So I'm left to pick up
The hints, the little symbols of your devotion

And I feel your fists
And I know it's out of love
And I feel the whip
And I know it's out of love
And I feel your burning eyes burning holes
Straight through my heart
It's out of love
It's out of love

I accept and I collect upon my body
The memories of your devotion
I accept and I collect upon by body
The memories of your devotion

And I feel your fists
And I know it's out of love
And I feel the whip
And I know it's out of love
And I feel your burning eyes burning holes
Straight through my heart
It's out of love, ooh hoo
It's out of love

Give me a little bit serious love
Give me a little full love
Be full of love

Fists, fists, fists full of love...

MINDY SMITH: ONE MOMENT MORE.

MINDY SMITH is the great hope of alternative country, although her style not only covers that area, also wanders between folk, pop, bluegrass and Americana. Recently we talked about Rumer. Well, she has stated that Mindy Smith's songs are part of his musical influences. we have chosen ONE MOMENT MORE of her debut album in 2004 with the same title. Smith is the owner of a beautiful and crystalline voice. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

Hold me
Even though I know you're leaving
And show me
All the reasons you would stay
It's just enough to feel your breath on mine
To warm my soul and ease my mind
You've got to hold me and show me now

Give me
Just one part of you to cling to
And keep me
Everywhere you are
It's just enough to steal my heart and run
And fade out with the falling sun

Oh, please don't go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more
You've got to hold me and keep me

Tell me that someday you'll be returning
And maybe
Maybe I'll believe
It's just enough to see a shooting star
To know you're never really far
It's just enough to see a shooting star
To know you're never really gone

Oh, please don't go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more

Oh, please don't go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more
You've got to hold me and maybe I'll believe

So hold me
Even though I know you're leaving

MECANO: ME CUESTA TANTO OLVIDARTE.

MECANO was the most successful Spanish group of the eighties. Was composed of two brothers (Nacho and Jose Maria Cano) and a friend (Ana Torroja). The brothers created the songs and spoken by the mouth of Ana.
Mecano had many fans as detractors. But few Spanish groups have sold as many records as them, in addition to conquer other European countries like Italy, France or Germany. I chose ME CUESTA TANTO OLVIDARTE from their 1986 album "Entre el cielo y el suelo" because it is one of the songs that I still enjoy listening. I think it has some effect yet. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

me cuesta tanto olvidarte
me cuenta tanto olvidarte
me cuesta tanto

olvidar quince mil encantos es
mucha sensatez
y no sé si seré sensato
lo que sé es que me cuesta un rato
hacer las cosas sin querer

y aunque fui yo quien decidió
que ya no más
y no me cansé se jurarte
que no habrá segunda parte
me cuesta tanto olvidarte
me cuesta tanto olvidarte
me cuesta tanto...

MINA: FIUME AZZURRO

We want to remind MINA the great Italian Singer. Mina has published over than seventy albumss in her career. We have chosen FIUME AZZURRO (L. Albertelli-E. Riccardi,1972) one of her hits that was versioned in Spain by MONICA NARANJO with the name "SOBREVIVIRÉ" 28 years after. Later we will listen her cover too. Mina is and will be one of those great divas very influential in the careers of other young hopefuls. An unforgettable voice and a captivating personality. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

Il mio cuore non recita più
c'è un padrone e quello sei tu
basta un bacio e io sento che
sei forte più di me.
La neve e il sole no
insieme non si può, no.

Qui nel buio c'è un ombra con me
la mia pelle non chiede chi è
fiume azzurro vai, dove arriverai
sempre mi troverai,
ma questa sera no
non mi difenderò, no.

Ma tu avrai l'onestà
di credermi?
Che sorprese l'amore ti dà
nei tuoi occhi non vedo pietà
cosa siamo noi, dove andiamo mai
c'è chi ci guida, sai
ma cosa dico, no
forse mi perderò, no.

Fiume azzurro va,
tu sei la verità,
quello che volevo
non mi basta più,
prima non sapevo,
ora ci sei tu
la tua bocca un nome griderà
ora io credo

ma tu avrai l'onestà
di credermi?
Che sorprese l'amore ti dà,
nei tuoi occhi non vedo pietà
cosa siamo noi, dove andiamo mai
c'è chi ci guida, sai
ma cosa dico, no
forse mi perderò, no.

Fiume azzurro va
tu sei verità
quello che volevo
non mi basta più
prima non sapevo
ora ci sei tu.
La tua bocca un nome griderà
ora io ti credo.

TORI AMOS: ROOSTERSPUR BRIDGE.

I promised that TORI AMOS would return to the pages of this blog. Because She is my recurring artist. All the best and worst moments of my life has been written with her music. Today I have Chosen ROOSTERSPUR BRIDGE a beautiful song from "American Doll Posse" (2007) her nineth album. A magical combination of piano and voice that transports you to the most intimate memories of your emotional baggage.

LYRICS

Somewhere down past Roosterspur bridge
Perhaps just a trick of the light
I thought I heard the sweetest guitar
Was It a rock and roll jesus

Sometimes I think
I think I understand
The fear in the boy
The fire in the man
Sometimes I watch
The wonder in your eyes
That and you leaving
I have memorized
That and you leaving
I have memorized

Drove all night through Sliding Rock Falls
Thinking I'd find something that we'd lost
Can't remember when you stopped laughing
Or when I stopped wanting to win

Sometimes I think
I think I understand
The fear in the boy
The fire in the man
Sometimes I watch
The wonder in your eyes
That and you leaving

I have memorized
Do you even see me now
Do you think of us still
Do I always read things in
Before a day's deliverance
On Roosterspur bridge

Sometimes I think
I think I understand
The fear in the boy
The fire in the man
Sometimes I watch
The wonder in your eyes
That and you leaving
I have memorized
That and you leaving
That and you leaving
I have memorized

TANITA TIKARAM: CATHEDRAL SONG.

"Ancient Heart" (1988) is one of the albums of my life. I still like to hear it from time to time. I always thought TANITA TIKARAN is one of the most intimate singer-songwriters and is one of the ones I have identified myself with. Today I have chosen CATHEDRAL SONG because we are near to these days of relaxation and meditation. A surround sound with unparalleled voice and unique of Tanita is the closest thing to nirvana.
Tanita Tikaram has released seven studio albums to date. The last in 2009. She will return always that she have something interesting to say. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

I saw from the cathedral
You were watching me
Yes I saw from the cathedral
What I should be

So take my time
And take my lies
'Cos all the others They want to take my life

And I watch, with an intent, basic
It's the same for you
You hold your hand
And it's all fine --- laced and
"What would you make me do?"
So take my time
And take my lies
'Cos all the others They want to take my life

Serious for the winter time
To wrench my soul
Whole cotton, whole cotton ears
But I know there must be
Yes, I know there must be, Yes, I know there must be a place to go

You saw me, from the cathedral
Well I'm an ancient heart
Yes, you saw me from the cathedral
Well here we are just falling apart
You catch me
I am tired
I want all that you are

And I saw from the Cathedral
You were leaving me
Yes I saw from the Cathedral
You could not see to see
So take my time
And take my lies
'Cos all the others They want to take my life

LUIS EDUARDO AUTE: AL ALBA.

LUIS EDUARDO AUTE is a Spanish musician, songwriter, filmmaker, painter and poet. Although primarily known as a songwriter, it stands as a painter and a filmmaker. He began recording albums in the late sixties and became one of the voices of Spanish democracy after the dictator's death. AL ALBA (1978) is about the death penalty. The last night of the last Spanish murdered by the dictatorship. Aute still writing and recording albums today. He has published more than thirty albums throughout his career. We also include a version of ROSA LEÓN of the same song. Because Rosa León is an icon of my childhood. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

Si te dijera, amor mío,
que temo a la madrugada,
no sé qué estrellas son estas
que hieren como amenazas,
ni sé qué sangra la luna
al filo de su guadaña.
Presiento que tras la noche
vendrá la noche más larga,
quiero que no me abandones
amor mío, al alba.

Al alba, al alba
al alba, al alba

Los hijos que no tuvimos
se esconden en las cloacas,
comen las últimas flores,
parece que adivinaran
que el día que se avecina
viene con hambre atrasada.

Presiento que tras la noche
vendrá la noche más larga,
quiero que no me abandones
amor mío, al alba.

Al alba, al alba
al alba, al alba

Miles de buitres callados
van extendiendo sus alas,
no te destroza, amor mío,
esta silenciosa danza,
maldito baile de muertos,
pólvora de la mañana.

 Presiento que tras la noche
vendrá la noche más larga,
quiero que no me abandones
amor mío, al alba.

Al alba, al alba
al alba, al alba

KATHLEEN EDWARDS: THE LONE WOLF.

KATHLEEN EDWARDS is a Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter. Edwards has published three albums to date. I have chosen THE LONE WOLF one of my favorites songs from "Failer" (2003) Her amazing debut album. This song was not a single but I fell in love the first time I heard. Edwards is one of those composers who are revitalizing the folk and alternative country. From here, I highly recommend all three albums. Hope you like.

ALBUM VERSION

LYRICS

He was the lone wolf you could see it in his eyes
The way he held his heart the way he held his lies
Sometimes he's just show up outside on the porch
And hour at a time like a lonely whore

She was a scarecrow the way she always looked around
For something she once had and never could be found
Time was on her side but she never kept track
All the hunters came and took her memories back

Once they met inside a dirty curtained room
And the rain fell down hard that day onto the tin roof
She said "I've seen you before, I've been looking for you
Better keep your heart close hunters are coming for you"
He said "I've seen them before and I always get away
Cuz you will never stop looking and I will never stay"

The lone wolf kissed her mouth like so many before
Scarecrow closed her eyes and then she closed the door
And the rain fell down on the tin roof when the hunters came that night
Stole all of her memories killed the wolf and all his lies

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS: SILVER JENNY DOLLAR.

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS is one our favourites bands. All their albums are little masterpieces, including the latest "Together" (2010) that we extracted JENNY SILVER DOLLAR one of the happiest songs of the album. The good thing about a band like this, is that they are well above the industry. They just are a group of friends who gather for fun, and every time they have new material, is much anticipated and never disappoint. All the band members have solo careers or are involved in other musical projects. What makes each disc of The New Pornographers is special. Hope you like.

LYRICS

She was only ever passing through
She's only ever passing through
Carlitas and You
Was the name of her act

And it's true
To love her
Is all I can do
In a world that's beaten everything
Black and blue

They holler
Silver Jenny Dollar
Silver Jenny Dollar
Silver Jenny Dollar

We're only ever passing through
We were only ever passing through
Carlitas and You
Was the name of her act

And it's true
You noticed
It's all I can do
In a world that's beaten everything
Black and blue

They holler
Silver Jenny Dollar
Silver Jenny Dollar
Silver Jenny Dollar

The winter's over
The war is over
A parcel of land, men
Our scum is true
They'll love ya...

Silver Jenny Dollar

LUZ CASAL: NO ME IMPORTA NADA.

LUZ CASAL has been in music since the early eighties and has released twelve albums to date. Luz is a beloved singer in Spain and trascended internationally thanks to the two songs that included Pedro Almodóvar in the film "High Heels", which would open the French music market, which also have surrendered to her talent. We have chosen NO ME IMPORTA NADA from her album "V" (1989), because it marked her definitive consecration, and because it is a great song. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

Tú juegas a quererme,
yo juego a que te creas que te quiero.
Buscando una coartada,
me das una pasión que yo no espero
y no me importa nada.
Tú juega a engañarme,
yo juego a que te creas que te creo,
eschucho tus bobadas
acerca del amor y del deseo

y no me importa nada, nada
que rías o sueñes
que digas o que hagas
y no me importa nada
por mucho que me empeñe
estoy jugando y no me importa nada.

Tú juegas a tenerme,
yo juego a que te creas que me tienes
serena y confiada
invento las palabras que te hieren,
y no me importa nada.
Tú juegas a olvidarme
yo juego a que te creas que me importa,
conozco la jugada
sé manejarme en las distancias cortas

y no me importa nada, nada
que rías o sueñes
que digas o que hagas
y no me importa nada...

DAYNA KURTZ: LOVE GETS IN THE WAY.

DAYNA KURTZ is a singer-songwriter from New Jersey. Her music can be described as a blend of Jazz, Folk and Pop. Dayna has published nine albums to date, since 1997. We have chosen LOVE GETS IN THE WAY from the album "Postcards from Downton" (2002), because this blog is called "Delicatessens" and this song is the most exquisite we can hear. Dayna is most popular in Europe than U.S.A. She is sufficiently known in Spain, because She offers concerts quite often. From here I recommend that if She goes through your town, you must not fail to see her live. It's a great experience. Dayna Kurtz is an example of what it is a truly independent artist

LYRICS

I’ve made love with one eye on the door
I’ve left good rooms with nothing to say
I wanted to love them
but love got in the way
I wanted to love them
but love gets in the way

And so what if everything’s changed
and so what if i’ve held out for more
I'm all wild in places I wasn’t before
I'm wild in places where I wasn’t before

So come on and make a mess of me
I won’t walk away
I'm ready as i’ll ever be
I won’t walk away

I want to be fed by you
I want to be led by you
I thought I wanted freedom
but love got in the way
I went looking for freedom
but love got in the way

So come on and make a mess of me
I won’t walk away
I'm ready as i’ll ever be
I won’t walk away

RUMER: AM I FORGIVEN?

RUMER is our new great inspiration. She is a british singer-songwriter of Pakistani descent. Her voice sounds like Karen Carpenter, one of his many influences. We have chosen AM I FORGIVEN? the fourth single from her platinum debut album "Seasons of My Soul". Rumer has come to stay. For now, she has already fallen in love with Burt Bacharach when he heard her sing, he took a plane to London to meet her personally. Bacharach is 82 years old and He has worked with the best artist during several decades (Dusty Springfield, Dione Warwick, Roberta Flack and many others). We hope you like.

LYRICS

I Lost My Heart,
I Didin't Know Wat To Do,
I Was So Cought In This Misunderstanding,
Took It Out All On You,

I Lost My Heart,
I Sat On My Window And Looked Out At,
Watched The Rain Washed Down The Street,

Lies Up To The Trees,

Oh Will You Be There For Me,
Will You Belong To Me,
Am I Forgiven,
Am I Forgiven,

Am I Forgiven,

Cas I Didin't Like The Words,
I Didin't Like The Words,
If I Should Let You Go,
There Would Be Nothin,
And Fianlly,
Love Would Be,
And I Can Begin Agian,
Can We Begin Agian,

Am I Forgiven,

DUSTY SPRINGFIELD: YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME.

DUSTY SPRINGFIELD is one of our favorite singers of all time. Her career gave us unforgettable songs during four decades. We believe She is a figure to claim in the history of pop. Today we have chosen one of his many hits: YOU DONT HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME (1966). Not be the last time She appears in this blog.

LYRICS

When I said, I needed you,
You said you would always stay.
It wasn't me who changed, but you.
And now you've gone away.

Don't you see that now you've gone,
And I'm left here on my own,
That I have to follow you,
And beg you to come home?

You don't have to say you love me.
Just be close at hand.
You don't have to stay forever,
I will understand.
Believe me, believe me,
I can't help but love you.
But believe me,
I'll never tie you down.

Left alone with just a memory,
Life seems dead and so unreal.
All that's left is loneliness.
There's nothing left to feel.

You don't have to say you love me.
Just be close at hand.
You don't have to stay forever,
I will understand.
Believe me, believe me-he.

You don't have to say you love me.
Just be close at hand.
You don't have to stay forever,
I will understand.
Believe me, believe me-ee, believe me.

JORGE DREXLER: TODO SE TRANSFORMA.

JORGE DREXLER is an Uruguayan singer-songwriter with over twenty years of experience in music. He is the only singer to have won an Oscar for a song in Spanish. He has released eleven albums to date. We chose TODO SE TRANSFORMA belonging to his album "Eco" (2004) because we think it is one of the most romantic songs ever written. Hope you like it.

LYRICS

Tu beso se hizo calor,
luego el calor, movimiento,
luego gota de sudor
que se hizo vapor, luego viento
que en un rincón de La Rioja
movió el aspa de un molino
mientras se pisaba el vino
que bebió tu boca roja.

Tu boca roja en la mía,
la copa que gira en mi mano,
y mientras el vino caía
supe que de algún lejano
rincón de otra galaxia,
el amor que me darías,
transformado, volvería
un día a darte las gracias.

Cada uno da lo que recibe
y luego recibe lo que da,
nada es más simple,
no hay otra norma:
nada se pierde,
todo se transforma.

El vino que pagué yo,
con aquel euro italiano
que había estado en un vagón
antes de estar en mi mano,
y antes de eso en Torino,
y antes de Torino, en Prato,
donde hicieron mi zapato
sobre el que caería el vino.

Zapato que en unas horas
buscaré bajo tu cama
con las luces de la aurora,
junto a tus sandalias planas
que compraste aquella vez
en Salvador de Bahía,
donde a otro diste el amor
que hoy yo te devolvería......

Cada uno da lo que recibe
y luego recibe lo que da,
nada es más simple,
no hay otra norma:
nada se pierde,
todo se transforma.
